.Cheezy Affair.

Happy raksha bandhan! All the chocolates and laddoo's during this festive season makes u care less about your calorie intake. So go food crazy and be a part of this cheezy affair!
Cheese and chiili... Just like they say opposites attract, this combination takes you on a journey of sweet and hot. The first time I tried it, i don't know what sense told me that it's gonna be cottage cheese(paneer) on the plate. I was in for a huge calorie surprise, WHOLE cheese diipped in a batter of cornflour and maida and then deep fried to get that cheese melt like lava inside. Not that all the oil and cheese was enough, they saute it with chillies and basic manchurian ingridients. One piece in my mouth and I was up yelling "cheese cheese, it's not paneer!!"
But who doesn't like cheese!! If only I didn't have those adipose growing in me so fast!! Taste- brilliant, The feel of that cheese melting away in your mouth- awesome. My friend says it's a perfect value for money, every penny worth it!! I can't agree more. This is good stuff.
p.s you wanna get your jogging shoes out after trying this one.
Location: panchamruth beside arun talkies.

Shauji food... love

"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what's for lunch"
                                                     -Orson welles
What's for my lunch? shauji mutton chops and kheema. If I haven't proved it enough through my previous blogposts that the tiniest of places serve the best food at belgaum then here it is, The shauji mess food.
This eatery needs directions to the location since it's not that easy to find. I'm gonna try my best to give you directions since my pals say I suck at giving directions. Will post the directions soon.
The first time I took few of my friends to this place they did not seem to like the old haggered bottle green coloured building almost impossibly balancing itself between two other tiny houses. As simple and zero-pride the place looks, so also are the people serving food(I feel it's almost sinful to describe all those irresistible delicacies just by the word 'food'... it deserves much more).
Well then here I go. This place is sure to take your taste buds on their best roller coaster ride. Climb all the way up through the tiny little stairway, which you may not fit into if you keep having this food daily. If you manage to get one of those four tables that fit into the small attic, you've gotta be lucky.
I have a lot to write about the food here, before I get down to serious munching, there is this peculiar, bizzare way that the waiter takes your order and passes it to the kitchen below. Mutton chops, kheema, ball curry, with roti or chapati is what we order. The waiter is a member of the family which makes those mouth watering delicacies, there's a small little opening on the floor of the attic through which the waiter yells out the order and it is acknowledged by the chef (another family member) below.

In five minutes our thali's are all set on our table with the best mutton you can eat at belgaum. The chops are mutton rack. Pardon me for that, THE BEST COOKED AND SPICED mutton rack with green coloured gravy. I love to have it with the roti or rather bhakri. My favourite at this place is the kheema, spicy spicy kheema that makes your nose run instantly!! The ball curry is not on my favourite's list, but you definitely wanna try it. This is one place that you don't need a salt and pepper holder at the table. Thumbs up to this place. And value for money? this place should hike their prices. 11/10 value for money. oops! I almost missed out on the mutton broth they serve, they call it the soup. You can have as many servings as you want.
Try and reach this place before 3pm to try all that oh-this-is-the-best-food-ever. well, you'll never get lucky on mondays since it's closed. slurrrrp!!!

For the love of coffee!!

There's something about this time in the morning, sipping over my extra strong coffee and with the cool wind blowing in my face. No, I'm not writing a romantic story today. Coffee gives me this nostalgic feeling, college days, new bikes, all the freedom, chilly mornings and the urge for something hot. Which place would you find open at 7am in belgaum? Ajanta, RPD.  This one's dedicated to all you veg eaters.
I's a 8km ride for us through the enchanting camp roads, if there's anything that takes your eyes away from admiring all the greenery, it's the freeze-you-to-death weather. After all that torture your skeletals took up, it's time to treat them with something hot- hot cuppa ajanta coffee. I love to sit at the table facing the glass wall, you don't miss all the action happening outside. Morning bikers having bad crashes due to overspeeding, the elderly out for their morning walks, teen guys waiting to have that first look of the day at their crushes and ofcourse the waiter coming and displaying his memory skills to you. Idli, kurma puri, missal, masala dosa that's all that I remember of the 10 or so dishes that he summarises.
I like to be consistent at my order with cofffee but switch between what I choose to eat. It's sometimes the fluffy idli with that oh-so-delicious sambar and chutney that I choose to have or It's the missal at ajanta. The missal has it's name rightly acheived, chakli, uppit, chuda, shev, kurma name it and it's there in the missal (it means mixture). This is one dish that will get your mouth watering anyday anytime.Another dish that romances your palate is the kurma puri. Just outta the hot bubbling oil, those puri's are to die for. The kurma is no less, we always ordered for an extra bowl.

If you are a dosa lover then this place serves lip smacking dosas too. Finish it up with that freshly made instant coffee and your taste buds have had a happy start for the day.

There's never a 'no' to maggi.

I've spent 4 years of my life at this place, KLE enggineering college. Managed through the first three years of absolutely unedible food at the canteen and all the jealousy I had for the GIT canteen. Well, finally the final year had some surprises in store. A new canteen with edible food and yes, tasty!!
Cheese rolls, cutlets, frankies, oreo milkshake, and the best that I like Maggi with egg fry! Even to date the question "Can maggi be really made in 2 mins?" holds good, the canteen staff proves that it takes more. You order for a maggi here and what you get back is "thoda time lagega". Nevertheless, it's worth the wait.
After the wait, which never seems too long if you have friends around and the aroma of the boiling maggi tickling ur senses in the background, arrives the meri masala wali maggi with a bulls eye egg fry on the top (you can skip on the egg fry if you are a vegetarian). I hate sharing my maggi but do it for a close friend. All conversation is stopped for the next five minutes and I get my senses to work on the amazing taste of this humble dish, all it asks of you is to want more of it. If it's anything that disappoints me is me not being able to lick on my bowl(bet you're missing out the tastiest part if you havent tried it yet!)

10/10 value for money. And guess what? you don't need an id card to eat at the canteen.

Let's talk hot soup!

hey again! My first blogpost seems almost abrupt, thats because I brought pen to paper(or fingers to keyboard as you may call it) just outta bed sipping on my morning coffee.
Let's talk hot soup, and why do i choose to? The clouds have been pouring since morning, the weather makes me sick wanting to burry myself under a blanket and have a cozy nap, but being a soup lover I choose to do the aforementioned after having a hot bowl of soup. I managed to make a decent bowl of soup and that reminded me of the best soups i've had around belgaum, so here I am forgoing my nap and sharing my soupy experiences with you.

Enter: friends corner, camp! many of you 'good ambience equals good food' lovers might give this place a thumbs down. If you haven't tried then don't judge is my suggesstion. This place serves the best soups and the best chicken legs. Chicken manchow soup, the first soup that I tasted at this place. It just leaves you wanting more. Moreover there are no "did you find chicken in your soup?" experiences that you'll have at this place. I always love the soup to be followed by the bbq'd chicken legs. Hot chicken leg topped with the tangy lemon juice, next step go slurp slurp! I've had a few cases with the chinese starters at this place, not very consistent is how i'd like to put it. Nevertheless, I love the green chicken starter.
The place is pretty reasonable at billing you. 8/10 value for money I say. p.s: It's got a small family section too, just in case you see only guys hovering all around the place.

Kababs.Biryani.Phirni

Hey there, it's that time of the year that u wanna fast all day long, only to treat yourself with the best of kababs, biryani & phirni. When I say best, trust me, I aint exaggerating. In the hustle bustle of the belgaum markets(the shopping paradise to some) is located this amazingly tasty street. I like to call it The DG p.s: Darbar Galli. If its not your gps that leads u to the place accurately, all u gotta do is sniff for that perfectly spiced and tandoored kababs, the aroma of the coal smoking up the best seekh kabab that you are gonna savour, the aroma of the ever so famous biryani cooked to perfection. If ur tongue didn't go slurp then trust me your pathetic at imagination.
My personal favourite is the seekh kabab, for reasons being i can't resist the sight of the meat on the seekh being smoked with all that coal burning down, all that fat in the meat bubbling up, Off the seekh and into my mouth is all that tasty meat with the tangy green chutney(gotta treat myself to one rite away).
Once you are done with treating your taste buds to all the spicy, tangy savouries. you wanna mellow it down with, Oh yes, The desert. Wait!! did i say mellow? nah, richness doesn't stop at this street. You wanna start with the kheer in the matka and then go levels up. Phirni: rice, milk, saffron, sugar try and beat that combi. Phirni comes in all the flavours that u can imagine and want.

Trust me, you don't wanna miss all this in these 40 days of 'feast of food' at DG. Bon appetit. If you are turned off by all the rush that you see there( you're not an absolute food lover) dont you worry, get your hands on the meat and you'll be in a world ' Me and my kabab: jannat' :-D
